The diversity and versatility of works by the artists, traditional crafters, and contemporary makers featured in A Textile Sampler showcase the cultural value of craft and the threads that bind modern practices to the rich traditions of fibre arts in the region.

April 7, Sunday 1-4pm -Artist talk
in Conversation With - Portia 'Po' Chapman Rawhide, my preferred natural canvas. Drum maker and exhibiting artitst, Portia 'Po' Chapman delves into the fascinating world of working with rawhide.
In this interactive conversation, participants will be able to touch and hear the many different rawhides, different small drums, and share what they see in the natural recording of life as commemorated on each drum face. This presentation embraces a part of Nature’s uplifting story.
April 13, Saturday 1-3pm - Community Rope Making with Sara Torrie and Shannon Gerard
You are invited to collaborate with two of the exhibiting artists from Gather in the county: A Textile Sampler, to create a length of textile rope, as a symbol and tactile prayer for the future.
As we prepare to twist the textiles, there will be opportunity to infuse them with your own wishes, dreams & prayers. If you are not able to attend the rope making event but would like to add your wishes for the future you can add them here!
This is a free drop in event, open to all.
The community-made rope will be exhibited at Gather in the county - Modern Textile Market June 15 2024.
April 21, Sunday 1-4pm - stitch-in with Nell Casson
Learn the basics of embroidery with Nell Casson, exhibiting textile artist from Gather in the county: A Textile Sampler.
All materials provided to learn the basics of embroidery, or bring along your current project and enjoy an afternoon with us in the gallery.
